Some Real Estate Agents Upset About Group’s Walker Endorsement

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Realtors Association has endorsed Gov. Scott Walker in a possible recall race, but some members question the decision since a challenger hasnt been selected.

Some members feel its just the latest, increasingly partisan move the Realtors Association has made. Many would like to see the group get out of the public politics business altogether.

Troy Thiel said he cant quite figure how backing Walker will help Wisconsin real estate agents sell homes.

One-hundred percent of Wisconsin is our consumer, said Thiel. Not supporters of this party and that party, but 100 percent of Wisconsin.

Yet, the trade association that Thiel and 13,000 other agents belong to endorsed the embattled governor last week.

It appears that they have rushed into an endorsement, said Barry Mirkin, head of the Condo Shoppe. Mirkin was there when the endorsement was decided. He said the topic didnt make it onto the meeting agenda, and the decision didnt seem much related to buying or selling.

There wasnt much discussion about how the election of one candidate over another was going to affect real estate issues, said Mirkin.

However, the associations president and CEO said the governors record on real estate is stellar.

They felt very comfortable having done all of this a year ago, to do it again, said WRA CEO Michael Theo. In a normal process we would take those things into consideration, but as you know the recalls are anything but a normal process.
